FTP directory

FTP access is a tool helping you to manage the file system of your web directory. While single pictures, documents and files can be transferred using the document manager, FTP is used to handle uploading of multiple files or to backup the whole web directory.

Your FTP directory

Bluetronix software provides an FTP programme without the need to install or to configure beforehand. To start it, go in editing mode to FTP -> FTP web directory.

Answer the following dialog with OK and in the next window click Open/Execute. Now the FTP programme presents itself in the common desktop layout.

You can use this window similar to Windows explorer, files and directories can be copied, deleted or moved to different locations. To transfer a file/directory to your local hard drive, select it and press Edit -> Copy. Now open your local explorer and click Edit -> Paste. Uploading files follows the same easy pattern.

FTP access management – FTP password

FTP access manager allows finding access details and provides a tool for changing passwords. You need those details to configure other FTP programmes you might want to use. Open it by clicking on FTP -> FTP management.

Setting up an external FTP programme

Our example shows the setup of t SmartFTP. The application can be downloaded at http://www.smartftp.com. To be able to configure it, you have to find your access details (address, user name and password) in FTP -> FTP management and write them down or save them in a temporary file.

In the menu bar, details can be entered directly. Enter port 21 if nothing else is preset and it works. To build up the connection click Connect button. Your web directory will now pop up in a window. This is used again like a usual explorer window.

Note that the port 21 must be accessible through your firewall, the router and the proxy server to allow FTP clients to connect.
